The USE OF SMART CISTERNS FOR RAINWATER HARVESTING AND UTILIZATION

According to the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA, 2023), Brazil is facing increasing challenges related to water availability, especially in metropolitan regions, making the adoption of sustainable solutions urgent. Although rainwater harvesting is a well-known practice, the lack of intelligent monitoring systems limits its potential and hinders efficient resource management.
This project consists of a smart mini cistern equipped with an ultrasonic sensor capable of measuring the volume of stored water and transmitting this data to an application for monitoring. The system includes a pump sized for the application, which is automatically activated when the reservoir reaches a predetermined level, directing the water to toilet flushing—one of the largest consumers of potable water in homes—thus increasing the efficiency of reuse.
