The Trash Hunt project proposes an interactive solution to promote environmental education and awareness about selective waste collection by using Augmented Reality (AR) and gamification. The application allows users to learn in a playful way about different types of waste, their proper disposal, and the environmental impact of incorrect dumping.
Through the use of AR, the app presents three-dimensional objects that simulate recyclable materials and guides players to sort them correctly. According to Dias and Zorzal (2013), combining AR with game elements can significantly increase engagement and learning in socio-environmental topics.
