Traffic congestion in large urban centers is caused by road saturation and the inefficiency of public transportation. To mitigate this problem, the project proposes the implementation of smart traffic lights equipped with sensors that identify the number, type, and speed of vehicles. Based on this data, an algorithm adjusts the signal timings, prioritizing public transport and enhancing safety. The initiative aims to optimize traffic flow, reduce travel time, improve urban mobility, and decrease pollutant emissions. Pedestrians and cyclists would also benefit from traffic lights adapted to their needs.
