The project “Smart Trash Bins with Monitoring and Reward System” emerges as a response to the concerning recycling rate of only 3% in the city of Sorocaba, where most waste is sent to landfills.
The objective is to optimize waste collection and increase recycling rates. We developed a bin that uses an ultrasonic sensor (HC-SR04) and an ESP32 microcontroller to monitor waste volume. When the bin reaches its maximum capacity, a dedicated application is notified, making collection routes more efficient and reducing CO₂ emissions from vehicles.
