Route Optimization in Vila Haro – Sorocaba
Keywords:
Selective collection, Routing, Productivity, SustainabilityAbstract
The Vila Haro neighborhood in Sorocaba/SP is part of the door-to-door selective waste collection route carried out by Núcleo Além Ponte, which is responsible for managing and collecting waste in several areas of the city. The initiative aims to ensure the proper disposal of recyclables, reducing the volume sent to landfills and encouraging sustainable practices among residents.
Despite the environmental and social importance of the service, it is still largely manual. Collectors follow empirical routes, created without technological support, containing only basic information such as addresses, landmarks, and contacts. The lack of systematic routing makes efficient planning difficult, resulting in longer routes, higher fuel consumption, increased operating time, and higher costs. There are also issues such as overlapping routes, improper use of resources, and decreased productivity.
